Mike McMahan has quickly become one of our favorite showrunners when it comes to adult animated series. After getting his start as a writer on Rick and Morty and then becoming showrunner in season 4, he created his own raunchy science fiction cartoon for Hulu in Solar Opposites. From there, he expanded into the Star Trek franchise with Lower Decks. And now, McMahan has revealed his latest show, Odd Jobs, an animated comedy in the works for Prime Video.

Set in the year 2127, Odd Jobs tells the story of a group of gig-economy workers taking on bizarre and deadly tasks via an app, which is also called Odd Jobs. The show is set in the “neo Midwest” against the backdrop of an “extreme late-stage capitalist hellscape,” according to the pick-up announcement. So basically, it sounds like Mad Max, but with smartphones and slightly more water.

Odd Jobs was co-created by McMahan and Dominic Dierkes, who also worked on Solar Opposites and you might recognize from the 2000s internet sketch group Derrick Comedy.

“While wandering through the wilderness, we accidentally stumbled through a portal and found ourselves hundreds of years in the future,” McMahan and Dierkes said in a statement. “We witnessed bizarre and grotesque portents about where humanity is heading. Instead of acting on those warnings, we’re thrilled to turn them into an animated show.”

Titmouse, the animation studio behind Big Mouth, Star Trek: Lower Decks, The Legend of Vox Machina, Metalocalypse, Scavengers Reign, and countless more, is also involved.

Odd Jobs does not yet have a release date.
