Carrie Underwood Courts Controversy With ‘Cowboy’

Carrie UnderwoodCarrie Underwood‘s ‘Cowboy Casanova’ has been country music’s fastest-selling single of 2009 — and Carrie’s fastest-selling of her career. Unfortunately, it’s just as quickly becoming embroiled in controversy. According to Perez Hilton (via Nashville Gab), an unsigned artist named Brittany McDonald met with one of Carrie’s co-writers — unidentified in the story — who heard a song by Brittany called ‘Bang’ and “loved” it.

“The meeting took place well before Carrie’s new single, ‘Cowboy Casanova,’ was written and recorded and now there is suspicion that the Idol alum’s latest single is in fact plagiarized from McDonald!,” sez Perez. The accusation was first uncovered on the website for a company called Crazed Hits, which represents unsigned acts. The site refers to McDonald as a “unsigned and unpublished Crazed Hits artist,” and says the alleged meeting took place last December.
